YUKON GOLD ULTRA
The Yukon Gold ultra is a new race from the organisers of the Yukon Arctic Ultra, to offer a summertime complimentary race to the winter one. Following traditional First nation single tracks and mining roads, competitors will have the chance to experience the wilderness without ever being too far from civilisation The race is open to both runners and mountain bikers and will offer two distances- 50 miles and 100 miles. The distances are completed non stop though competitors will pass through some checkpoints along the course. Otherwise they are self sufficient.
YUKON GOLD ULTRA
The inaugural edition of the Yukon Gold Ultra will start on 28th August 2007 in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Entry fees will be from £90 to £200 depending on the distance and the date your entry fee is paid. Travel/Flights are at the responsibility of the competitor.
HOW TOUGH IS IT?
A non stop ultra distance is always going to take its toll on you, however this race is likely to be significantly less extreme that the winter race where once is coping with cold, hypothermia and pulling a sled.
The course will be undulating and there will be significant elevation so this is worth bearing in mind, also competitors carry what provisions they need in a back pack so this adds to the challenge.
This ultra ( certainly the 50 miler)would be a good starting point as a first ultra race, giving competitors the chance to cover the distance without the extreme environment.
