ROCK AND ICE ULTRA 2008-DIAMOND
A 225 km / -stage / 6 - 7 day foot and snowshoe or ski race through pristine northern wilderness, rich in First Nation culture, history and Canadian Diamonds! The route takes racers out onto Great Slave Lake, the world’s eleventh largest lake (the ‘other-desert’). Competitors are required to carry everything they will need for the duration of the event on their backs or in a pulk (personal kitchen & food, clothing, medical kit, sleeping system, etc). Water and sports drink are provided at each Discovery Check Point. Basic navigational ability in desert type conditions will need to compliment exceptional athletic ability to finish this race well.
DIAMOND 2008
The 2008 edition will take place from March 22nd- 27th 2008 and is open to solo competitors, or teams of three who may compete either on foot or skis.
Entry fee is $2000. (two thousand US dollars or sterling or euro equivalent.)
HOW TOUGH IS IT?
V-E-R-Y. Combine a huge distance of 191 miles, divided into stages, add the self sufficiency aspect of pulling your supplies in a sled, consider the navigational aspects as navigational skills are required, couple this will snow and temperatures dropping to -23 each night, and the race will surely be one of the most taxing on the ultra circuit.
