The Moletracks Endure II back pack has been the first choice of many a Marathon des Sables runner in recent years. With capacity being somewhat on the small side at 25 litres for expedition distance races, the normal configuration combines the backpack with a front auxiliary pack.
The back pack benefits from yoke style shoulder straps, a Coolmax lined back panel, an internal sleeve for a hydration system, map pouch, and two large zip closure external pockets and weighs in at a scant 540g (although this is only for the 25 litre back pack). To get the best from this back pack you really need to combine it with the auxiliary pack, adding another 227g and 5.5 litres of carrying capacity.
On its own the back pack straps are a little narrow for anything but the lightest of loads, over pack and this causes some discomfort and instability while running. Adding the auxiliary pack really makes the overall system perform. The stability increases immeasurably with the carrying load held tightly against the torso without being restrictive or causing overheating. While testing the system I carried loads of up to 15 KG over hilly and densely forested terrain and the system allowed me to run with minimal snagging and maintaining good posture on the up hill sections.
Overall a pure ultra running pack and perfect for the longer expedition length ultras such as the Trans 333 and the Marathon des Sables. It should also perform very well in races such as the Jungle Marathon. It wouldn't be my first choice for an Adventure Race due to it's relatively limited carrying capacity and complexity. The front Auxiliary pack while excellent for running, didn’t work especially well while mountain biking.
The system is available in black, khaki, royal blue and limited edition silver.
RRP is £110 when the back pack and auxiliary pack are bought in combination
