Jungle Marathon 2008
On October 7th around 200 runners and support staff will board the boats to take them to Itapuama for this years edition of Jungle marathon, the worlds wildest eco-race.
Jungle Marathon, a six stage seven day footrace though deep jungle, is a self sufficient event, meaning runners face the hideous elevations of the rainforest with the heaviest of backpacks.
In addition to clothing, food and first aid kit, they are required to carry a hammock, rainfly sheet and mosi net.

Days are spent in the deep jungle doing stages that vary in length from 18km to 90km.
Nights are spent at pre-designated campsites on the shores of the Tapajos river.
Competitors deal with a host of challenges throughout the race. Steep climbs and descents; lots of mud;swamp crossings, several deep water crossings and some rope elements thrown in as well.
Couple this with high temperatures and about 88% humidity and the race is not for the faint-hearted.
