Trans 333 2005
The finishers have been making their way across the finish line of the Trans
333 2005 in the south-western deserts of Egypt over the past few hours. It
seems that by universal consent this year's race was the most brutal of them
all.
The combination of extreme heat and utterly brutal terrain meant that the
winner took a total of 78 hours - as opposed to previous winning times of
between 63 and 48 hours. A higher number than usual (latest reports say
around 15 of the 60 runners) have not been able to finish the course in the
time.

Back in his hotel room, Trans 333 veteran (he has been back four or five
times), Wayne Simpson said
‘It were really, really tough this year, so bad it broke everyone’s spirit.
I’ve never seen anything like it. It was unbelievable. An’ I’m used to the
‘ard stuff.’
The course, which started on Sunday 13th November at 9am, closed in the
afternoon of Thursday 18th. Currently the runners are in an oasis canyon,
resting after their exertions. A celebration has been staged for this
evening.
